A tragic fire outbreak has claimed the lives of 17 Almajiri students and left 16 others injured at an Islamiyya School in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The fire, which occurred on Tuesday night at the school known as ‘Makarantar Mallam Ghali’, burned for more than three hours before fire service personnel were able to extinguish it.
According to local resident Abdurrazak Bello Kaura, the fire is believed to have originated from a fire left unattended by Qur’anic students, who use sticks called ‘Kara’ during their usual night Qur’anic recitation sessions.
Comrade Mannir Mu’azu Haidara, the Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area, confirmed the incident, stating that the local government would provide necessary support to the school, the injured, and the families of the victims.
