Police Arrest 3 Suspects With Human Skull in Imo
Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested three individuals in possession of a human skull at Ogii Community in Okigwe Local Government Area. The skull, which belongs to an unidentified person, was discovered on February 3, 2025, following a tip-off from local residents.
The suspects—Patrick Okoere, 29; Ifeanyichukwu Anyaemeka, 28; and Chukwuemeka Onyekachi, 20—are all from Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. According to DSP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, the three were apprehended by officers from the Okigwe divisional headquarters in collaboration with the community.
The suspects claimed that Patrick’s uncle, Osunta Oko, had asked them to obtain a human skull, which he allegedly wanted for use in a land dispute. They further stated that they found the skull along a riverbank on the Okigwe-Umuahia Expressway, an area known for frequent kidnappings and disappearances.
Along with the skull, the police recovered a native hen and white garments from the suspects. The police have launched a manhunt for Osunta Oko, the uncle, and are conducting a DNA test to identify the deceased person whose skull was found.
DSP Okoye assured the public that the police are working diligently to bring justice to the situation. He also stated that the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has reaffirmed the commitment of the police to ensure the safety and security of all residents. The suspects will face prosecution once the investigation is completed.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, with further updates to be provided as new information emerges. The Okigwe-Umuahia Expressway has become notorious for abductions and disappearances, with some communities in the area even fleeing due to ongoing insurgency activities.
