Stray Bullet Kills Trader Amid Cult Clash in Bayelsa
A stray bullet from a suspected cultist has tragically claimed the life of Mrs. Christiana Onoakpoma Rose, a trader, at Swali Market in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The incident, which occurred on Monday, has raised concerns over safety in the market and the surrounding areas.
Bayelsa State Police Command spokesman Musa Mohammed confirmed the tragic event, stating that the cultists involved in the clash have been arrested and are currently under interrogation. Mohammed assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice for the late trader, who was originally from Delta State.
Recent cult-related violence has been escalating in the state, with reports indicating that at least five individuals have been killed in clashes between rival groups in recent weeks. This surge in violence has raised questions about the effectiveness of the state’s security measures.
Local resident Mr. Nicholas Odoko urged authorities to implement stricter measures to curb the growing activities of cultists, warning that without immediate intervention, the situation could spiral further out of control.
Traders and residents of Swali Market have expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity, calling on Governor Douye Diri’s administration to intensify efforts to combat cult-related violence. There are also calls for increased security presence in public spaces to prevent further bloodshed in the state.
