Two Petrol Tankers Explode At Adamawa Filling Station
Two petrol-laden tankers exploded at an MRS filling station along the Numan Road, near the Jezco filling station, close to the Yola International Airport, on Tuesday. The intense fire forced authorities to block the road leading into Yola, as curious onlookers gathered, disregarding the potential danger.
As of the latest reports, both tankers were completely consumed by the flames. Fire service personnel arrived at the scene promptly but faced difficulties in combating the blaze, reportedly running out of water in their initial efforts. Security forces were also deployed to secure the area.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of tanker explosions across Nigeria, particularly as fuel has become an increasingly scarce and valuable commodity amid the country’s worst economic crisis in decades. Earlier in January 2025, a tanker explosion along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway killed at least 11 people. Another tragic explosion in Niger State on January 18, 2025, claimed the lives of 86 people, while 55 others were injured when locals attempted to scoop fuel from a fallen tanker. Additionally, a tanker explosion in Agbor, Delta State, in early January left five dead.
The repeated incidents highlight the dangerous consequences of fuel-related accidents in Nigeria, underscoring the critical need for improved safety measures and emergency response preparedness.
