Zulum Applauds Tinubu For Approving Reconstruction Of Borno Dam
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving N80 billion for the reconstruction and upgrade of Alau Dam.
The dam collapsed on September 10, 2024, causing devastating flooding in Maiduguri and parts of Jere local government areas of Borno State. The flooding affected more than one million people, damaging numerous properties.
Governor Zulum, through his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, described the approval as exhilarating. He commended President Tinubu for his leadership and the monumental decision to allocate such a substantial amount to reconstruct and upgrade the dam.
“This decision is a gladdening tidings, not just for farmers, fishermen, and others involved in economic activities around the dam, but also for the state government, which is focused on reviving agriculture as a key economic activity,” Zulum said.
He expressed confidence that the reconstruction would help prevent future flooding and improve the lives of a population already vulnerable due to the impact of Boko Haram insurgency.
Zulum also acknowledged President Tinubu’s sympathy visit to Maiduguri during the disaster and the substantial aid provided, which helped ease the suffering of those affected. He thanked the president for ensuring that critical projects and programs are distributed equitably across Nigeria.
The governor concluded by reaffirming Borno State’s support for President Tinubu’s people-oriented policies and projects aimed at national development and prosperity.
