Hoodlums Kill 7 In Rivers Community

At least seven people have been reported killed by suspected hoodlums in Obelle, a community in the Emohua local government area of Rivers State. The attackers reportedly tracked their victims to their homes, breaking in and using dangerous weapons to kill them.

Chinanu Eleonu, a local vigilante leader from Ibaa and Obelle communities, raised an alarm to security agencies in the area. He named two individuals, identified only as Kiro and Yellow, as being responsible for the killings. Eleonu emphasized that he had no involvement in any form of crime, particularly following the murder of a local vigilante member late in 2024, which he claimed was linked to the same group of assailants.

Eleonu urged the chairman of Emohua LGA, Hon. David Omereji, as well as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Joint Taskforce (JTF) commander, to intensify efforts in investigating the killings and apprehending those responsible.

Although the Rivers State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement on the incident, the DPO of Rumuji Division and the JTF commander in Ibaa have already visited the crime scene to begin their investigation.
