NBA Now Rising Up to Its Motto Under Osigwe — Prof. Badejo
The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Anti-corruption Committee, Professor Babafemi A. Badejo, has praised the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, for his bold stance in confronting corruption and holding the government accountable.
In a statement titled “The NBA is Rising Up to Its Motto,” Prof. Badejo highlighted that under the leadership of Osigwe, the NBA is fulfilling its motto of “Promoting the Rule of Law” through its active efforts to tackle corruption. He emphasized that promoting the rule of law is impossible in a society where corruption is pervasive, noting the well-established link between corruption and the erosion of the rule of law. “The more corruption there is, the less the rule of law,” he said.
Prof. Badejo acknowledged that Mazi Osigwe’s leadership has been instrumental in driving this initiative forward. He entrusted the responsibility of combating corruption to a dedicated team of NBA members who have proven their commitment and trustworthiness in the fight. Osigwe’s unwavering advocacy against corruption has strengthened the Association’s resolve to hold the government accountable.
“Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, since his election as President of the NBA last year, has consistently spoken out against corruption. His actions align with his words, as he has empowered trusted members to join in the fight against corruption,” Prof. Badejo stated. He further expressed that while corruption in Nigeria affects all branches of government, Osigwe has been vocal in urging the need for all government arms to be held accountable for their actions.
Prof. Badejo concluded by saluting Osigwe’s bold leadership, emphasizing the importance of the NBA’s role in shifting the growing perception that corruption is normal, and committed to delivering results in the fight against corruption.
