Oyebanji Cautions Christian Pilgrims Against Tarnishing Nigeria’s Image In Holy Land
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has urged intending Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land of Israel to be patriotic and avoid any actions that could harm Nigeria’s reputation or jeopardize its interests.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Friday during the departure service for Ekiti Christian pilgrims, Oyebanji emphasized the importance of spiritual rebirth for national development. He noted that such experiences lead to attitudinal change and character rebranding, which are essential for a society’s growth.
Represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, the governor encouraged the pilgrims to approach the journey with zeal and dedication so that the benefits of the pilgrimage could manifest in their lives. “Spiritual rebirth is very strategic to the growth and development of any nation,” he said. “It brings necessary attitudinal change, character rebranding, increased holiness, and Godliness.”
He called for prayers not just for the pilgrims themselves, but for the state, the nation, and the world. “We live in times that require our collective prayer and unity more than ever,” he said.
Governor Oyebanji urged the pilgrims to maintain focus during their time in the Holy Land, advising them to avoid any actions that could bring embarrassment to Nigeria. He stressed that they should behave responsibly and act with integrity. “Be above board in all your dealings,” he said, wishing them divine encounters and spiritual fulfilment.
He also reminded the pilgrims that their journey was a spiritual one and urged them to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure the pilgrimage’s success. “Carry with you the values of love, peace, and unity that define our great state,” he urged.
The governor reassured the pilgrims that the state government had made arrangements for their safety and comfort throughout the journey, working with partners to facilitate a smooth pilgrimage experience.
In a brief exhortation, the Chaplain of the Government House, Pastor Segun Awolumate, urged the pilgrims to embrace holiness, reminding them that the Holy Land is filled with God’s spirit and covenant. “I expect you to be holier and believe more in God after this journey,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Abayomi Opeyemi, also reminded the pilgrims to follow the rules of the Holy Land. He emphasized that their trip was a pilgrimage, not a tourist visit, and advised them to adhere to the principles of such a journey.
