Tinubu Donates 6 CNG Buses To Students
President Bola Tinubu has donated six Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to Nigerian students across the six geopolitical zones of the country. The buses, which were distributed through the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Students’ Engagement, Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo, aim to provide students with more efficient and affordable transportation.
During the handover ceremony on Friday, Asefon highlighted that this donation was part of President Tinubu’s broader commitment to supporting students in Nigeria. He emphasized that, in the past, students often had to hire buses for events at steep costs, sometimes up to N200,000. With the new buses, students will only need to pay a token fee, making transportation significantly more affordable.
“The buses are not just for transport; they also give students the confidence that they are using vehicles dedicated to their needs,” Asefon said, noting that the initiative was just the beginning. He also assured that the maintenance of the buses would be closely monitored, with any issues being promptly addressed by his office. Schools will also take responsibility for maintaining the buses stationed at their campuses, ensuring their long-term sustainability.
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Lucky Emonefe, expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the unprecedented move, stating that it would greatly ease transportation costs for Nigerian students. He also emphasized that this initiative, which involves distributing over 20 buses across various zones, is a historic achievement for NANS, made possible through constructive dialogue rather than protests.
“This is going to be very useful for Nigerian students, and it will ease the cost of transportation on campuses. We are happy and I want to thank the President for this gesture. This is the first time it has ever happened in the history of NANS,” Emonefe stated.
