Ohanaeze Ndigbo Sets Plans in Motion to Revive Igbo Language and Culture

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo sociopolitical organization, has launched an initiative aimed at revitalizing the Igbo language and culture in a bid to restore its global significance as a recognized medium of communication.

Under the leadership of Senator John Azuta Mbata, the organization highlighted that the Igbo-speaking communities span over seven states in Nigeria and that Igbos in the diaspora are present in nearly every part of the world.

The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo made this announcement following their inaugural meeting on Friday, February 7, at the National Secretariat in Enugu.

Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, shared with journalists that Igbo tribes can also be found in areas such as Kogi, Benue, and Cross River, in addition to the seven states with significant Igbo populations: Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers.

He emphasized that reviving the Igbo language and culture will not only promote Nigeria’s rich and diverse cultural heritage but also contribute to the country’s socioeconomic growth.

The meeting also established new committees, including one focused on Peace and Conflict Resolution, led by Chief Gary Enwo Igariwey, a former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and another tasked with developing a work plan for the advancement of the Igbo nation.

In related news, Chief Arthur Obiora, the former National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze, praised the election of Senator Mbata as the new President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. He called Mbata’s election a historic moment for the organization and noted that it adhered to the rotational principle enshrined in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo constitution.

Obiora lauded Senator Mbata as a man of integrity whose wealth of experience would significantly benefit the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
