Police Successfully Rescue Kidnapped Traditional Ruler in Edo

 

The Edo State Police Command announced on Saturday that its operatives have successfully rescued His Royal Highness Friday Ehizojie, the Onogie of Udo-Eguare community, who was kidnapped earlier this month.

According to the Command’s spokesman, Moses Yamu, the traditional ruler was ambushed on February 3 while traveling on a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, known as the Okada rider, was killed during the attack. Several other individuals were also abducted on the same day.

In a statement released on February 7, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) confirmed that the rescue of the Onogie was made possible by a sustained search and the logistical support provided by the Edo State government and other key stakeholders.

The statement read: “The Edo State Police Command is pleased to inform the public that the continuous search and rescue operations have yielded a positive result. At approximately 18:00 hours on February 7, 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, fulfilled her vow by securing the release of His Royal Highness, Friday Ehizojie, who was kidnapped on February 3, 2025.”

The statement further thanked the Edo State Government, led by Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for the crucial logistical support that contributed to the successful operation. It also acknowledged the efforts of vigilantes, hunters, and other residents for their assistance in the rescue mission.

The public was assured of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents in the state.
