Police Detain Officer for Allegedly Killing Father of 6 in Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command has detained one of its officers for allegedly shooting and killing Bright Egbule, a father of six, in Omagwa community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
In protest of the killing, youths from Omagwa community blocked the Port Harcourt-Owerri Road early on Sunday, using the deceased’s body as part of their demonstration. The protesters reportedly attempted to dump the corpse at the Omagwa Police Station, but they were prevented from doing so.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident in a text message to journalists, stating that the victim’s body has been deposited in the morgue and that normalcy has returned to the area.
She said, “The command is aware, and the Commissioner of Police is on top of the situation. Normalcy has now been restored, and adequate security is in place to prevent any breach of peace. The corpse has been deposited at the morgue, and the police officer has been detained while investigations are ongoing.”
