RCCG General Overseer Adeboye Denies Role in TikToker SeaKing’s Arrest

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has rejected claims of his involvement in the recent arrest of popular TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, also known as ‘SeaKing.’

Ogunsanwo, who was recently detained over allegations of cyberbullying Adeboye, has stirred significant conversation on social media, with many questioning the reasons behind his arrest.

Addressing the matter during the church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service held at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State on Friday, Adeboye clarified that he had no part in the arrest and called for SeaKing’s immediate release.

In a widely shared video from Saturday, the 82-year-old pastor vehemently denied issuing any directive for Ogunsanwo’s detention. He suggested that certain individuals, enraged by SeaKing’s criticism of him, took matters into their own hands.

“I was told someone criticized me heavily. But what did I do wrong? Because I encouraged my followers to fast for 100 days? I never told him to fast,” Adeboye said, speaking to the congregation.

“I didn’t even instruct anyone outside the Redeemed Christian Church of God to fast. I heard some people got so angry they took it upon themselves to arrest the person. Let him go, he is fulfilling prophecy,” he added.

Meanwhile, human rights advocate and politician, Omoyele Sowore, who visited Ogunsanwo at a police facility in Abuja on Friday, accused the arrest of being linked to a petition allegedly filed in Adeboye’s name.

Sowore claimed that the petition was submitted by one Paul James Adama, who purportedly used the name of a Christian association associated with the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Sowore further tied the arrest to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, suggesting that Egbetokun and his family were RCCG members.

On his Facebook page late Saturday, Sowore wrote: “The Nigeria Police Force under the incompetent Kayode Egbetokun has lost its mind. What many don’t know is that Egbetokun and his family are ‘redeemers’—a term used to describe RCCG members. Don’t be misled by what Pastor E. A. Adeboye is saying publicly.

“Last year, during the Holy Ghost Congress, over 100 police officers were assigned to protect Egbetokun’s wife. This is why those in power disregard Nigerians. Since yesterday, SeaKing’s detention location has been changed, and his whereabouts remain unknown. We must work towards separating religious bodies from the state. But beyond that, this country is overdue for a revolution.”
