Kwara Governor Donates 3 Vehicles, 10 Motorcycles to 22 Armoured Brigade
On Monday, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, donated three vehicles and ten motorcycles to the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Sobi, Ilorin, to boost the operational capacity of the Brigade.
Additionally, the Governor inaugurated the newly constructed Quarter Guard and remodeled headquarters of the 22 Armoured Brigade, projects carried out by the Nigerian Army in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s commitment to maintaining infrastructure.
During the commissioning, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted that “Any money appropriated by the Federal Government through the National Assembly trickles down to the Army. This event serves as a proof,” he said. He also emphasized that equipping the military goes beyond acquiring weapons; it involves providing essential infrastructure to support effective operations.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Army, particularly for their role in maintaining peace in Kwara, saying, “They are doing their best to make sure we sleep every night.”
Among those in attendance were the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu; Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Maj. Gen. Oluwafemi Williams; and Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education (NACOE), Major General Umar Nasir Babangida, along with other senior military officers.
Maj. Gen. Onubogu commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his consistent support of the military, noting that it continues to strengthen the Brigade’s capacity to maintain peace within the state. “For Kwara State, we must thank God for the peace within the state. Of course, there are areas of concern, but we have been able to manage that. This is partly because of the support from His Excellency the Governor,” he said.
He added that the newly commissioned vehicles, motorcycles, and Quarter Guard would be instrumental in the Brigade’s operations within the state. “When you talk about security and peace in the state, it is because of this kind of support,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Williams, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, expressed gratitude for the remodeling of the Brigade Complex, which has provided a more conducive working environment for the officers and soldiers. He thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for logistical support and Governor AbdulRazaq for his interventions that ensured the successful completion of the project.
