PDP Youths Back Anyanwu as National Secretary
The PDP Youths Coalition Movement, led by Hon. Biniya Yahuza Gabari, has voiced strong support for Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The statement, issued after a meeting held in Kano State with coalition members from 19 Northern states, criticized recent efforts by PDP governors and Board of Trustees (BoT) members to remove Senator Anyanwu from office. The group deemed these attempts unconstitutional and urged the public to disregard such claims.
Hon. Gabari emphasized that Senator Anyanwu’s election as National Secretary followed the party’s constitutional guidelines, asserting that he remains the rightful officeholder. “The PDP constitution clearly outlines that the National Secretary must be an elected officer, and Senator Anyanwu remains the legitimate officeholder,” Gabari said.
The coalition also expressed support for the PDP National Chairman, Iliyasu Umar Damagum, commending his adherence to the party’s constitution amid ongoing internal challenges. They dismissed allegations that Damagum was biased or aligned with specific political interests, pointing out that many of the issues within the party, such as Ben Ayade’s defection and disputes in Ebonyi State, existed prior to his leadership.
“The challenges facing the party predate Damagum’s leadership. His only ‘offense’ is standing by the truth and following the constitution,” Gabari stated.
He further noted that a court ruling had affirmed Senator Anyanwu’s legitimacy as National Secretary, reinforcing the coalition’s opposition to any unlawful attempts to remove him.
The group urged party stakeholders to respect the rule of law and work towards unity within the PDP. “The PDP Youths Coalition Movement stands firmly in support of Senator Anyanwu and National Chairman Iliyasu Umar Damagum. The constitution must be the guiding principle for resolving internal disputes,” Gabari concluded.
