Police Recover Additional 10 Stolen Manhole Covers in Abuja

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have successfully recovered ten more stolen manhole covers in Abuja, as part of their ongoing efforts to combat infrastructure vandalism in the nation’s capital.

The latest recovery took place in Dei-Dei, a suburb of the FCT, following a tip-off from a vigilant resident. This brings the total number of recovered manhole covers in the FCT to 125.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the stolen items were discovered hidden in a pit, marking another achievement in the fight against the theft and destruction of public assets.

This recovery follows a significant operation last week in which the FCT Police, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) set up by the Minister of the FCT, Barr Nyesom Wike, intercepted and recovered various stolen public assets.

In response to this development, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling vandalism and warned criminals to desist or face legal action.

“We are intensifying efforts to dismantle networks involved in infrastructure theft. Our operatives will continue searching for stolen public assets and uncover illegal storage sites,” Disu stated.

The Commissioner thanked residents for their cooperation and encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
