Two individuals, Lekan Osansan and Olubodun Oladimeji, have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Akure, Ondo State, for allegedly abducting Police Inspector Michael Aromeh. The two suspects were charged with the abduction, which occurred on January 12, 2025, when the inspector, who was in uniform, was abducted from the NTA junction and taken to an unknown destination along with other accomplices.

It was reported that a team of police officers eventually rescued Inspector Aromeh from the abductors.

Police Prosecutor Martins Olowofeso pressed three charges against the suspects, including conspiracy, kidnapping, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The charges read:

  1. That the defendants, Lekan Osansan and Olubodun Oladimeji, conspired to kidnap Inspector Aromeh from NTA Junction to an unknown destination, committing an offence punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code of Ondo State.
  2. That the defendants kidnapped Inspector Aromeh on the same date, which led to his eventual rescue by ASP Yahaya Ondeku and five others, a crime punishable under section 364 of the Criminal Code of Ondo State.
  3. That the defendants, through their actions, engaged in conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, which is punishable under section 249(D) of the Criminal Code of Ondo State.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and their lawyer requested bail.

Chief Magistrate R.A. Olumilua granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each, with two sureties for each defendant. One of the sureties must be a Level 14 officer in the Ondo State civil service, and the other must be a clergyman or a recognized chief.
