Tinubu Pushes AI and Tech Collaboration With Google in Paris
President Bola Tinubu recently met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in Paris, France, to discuss a strategic partnership aimed at positioning Nigeria as a key player in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation.
The discussions focused on five key areas: enhancing scalable cloud infrastructure, equipping Nigeria’s workforce with future-ready skills, fostering AI research and innovation, driving cloud adoption, and elevating Nigeria’s status as a global tech hub.
Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s growing AI ecosystem, citing the government’s collaboration with Awarri Technologies to develop AI software infrastructure. This initiative includes the creation of data capture platforms and a large language model (LLM) for Nigerian languages, in partnership with the National Centre for AI and Robotics (NCAIR).
This partnership with Google supports Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims for economic diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, and technological advancement. The President emphasized that Nigeria’s efforts in AI would unlock new business opportunities, stimulate innovation, and contribute to the global digital economy.
Tinubu’s engagement with Google is part of a broader strategy to place Nigeria at the forefront of technological progress, with oversight provided by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy and implementation led by NITDA.
The President concluded that this collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting journey for Nigeria in AI and technology.
