3 Air Peace Passengers Arrested At Lagos Airport Over Unruly Conduct
Three passengers were arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Wednesday following unruly conduct aboard an Air Peace flight from London to Lagos.
The incident began when two passengers, identified as Adedigba Adewale and Ashibogu Magnus, attempted to sit in business class despite holding economy tickets. Efforts by the flight crew to peacefully resolve the situation were unsuccessful as the passengers forcefully made their way into the business class section without authorization.
The situation escalated when the passengers, who had brought alcohol onto the flight, began drinking openly and threatened to cause chaos, creating tension among other passengers. A third passenger, identified as Iwonze Benjamin, joined in the drinking, further contributing to the disruptive behavior.
Air Peace spokesperson, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, stated on Thursday that the flight captain had briefly left the cockpit to assess the situation before returning as a precautionary measure. The flight crew also alerted Nigerian security agencies ahead of landing, ensuring that law enforcement officers were ready to apprehend the disruptive passengers once the plane arrived.
“The flight crew notified security agencies in Nigeria ahead of arrival. Upon landing, law enforcement officials were on the ground to take the individuals into custody for further investigation,” Ndiulo said.
Thankfully, none of the crew members sustained injuries during the incident, as the altercation was only verbal. The spokesperson emphasized Air Peace’s commitment to passenger safety and adherence to global aviation standards.
“Any form of disruptive behavior will not be tolerated,” Ndiulo reiterated, assuring the public that the airline continues to uphold the highest levels of security and order on all flights.
The airline also thanked the crew members for their professionalism in managing the situation.
