Oyo Pensioners Praise Governor Makinde for Commitment to Their Welfare
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council, has expressed their gratitude and support for Governor Seyi Makinde for his dedication to improving the welfare of pensioners in the state.
During an appreciation rally held in Ibadan, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, the NUP Secretary, commended Makinde for his efforts to make retirement more rewarding for state workers. He highlighted the significant improvements in pensioners’ treatment since Makinde assumed office, contrasting it with the previous administration where pensioners faced delays and installment payments for their gratuities and pensions.
Abatan praised the Governor for his sensitivity towards the plight of pensioners, pointing out that Makinde’s administration had consistently increased the minimum wage for pensioners and ensured that all pension increases from 2007 were incorporated into their benefits. Furthermore, Abatan noted that the governor had promised to clear all pension arrears by May 28, 2027, which had brought renewed hope to pensioners for a secure future.
In addition to the financial improvements, the NUP Secretary recognized the Governor’s contributions to infrastructure development, such as the construction of roads, as well as his actions to reinstate workers and pensioners who were wrongly removed from the payroll. Abatan also appreciated Makinde’s efforts to enroll pensioners into the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, which has improved their access to healthcare services.
Governor Makinde, represented by his deputy, Adebayo Lawal, thanked the pensioners for their unprecedented show of solidarity and affirmed his administration’s continued commitment to timely payment of pensions. He emphasized the government’s collaboration with pensioners and assured them that their welfare would always be prioritized. Makinde also promised to continue consulting with pensioners to ensure their needs are addressed.
