Valentine’s Day About Love, Service To Humanity – Obi
Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has described Valentine’s Day as a time to extend love and service to humanity. Obi made the remarks during a visit to the Daughters of Divine Love as part of his activities for the day.
“While I have told my family and children that I love them, the greatest love is that which is expressed through sacrifice for humanity. I believe this is the true essence of Valentine’s Day,” Obi said.
He visited the ongoing School of Nursing project at the Daughters of Divine Love in Emene, Enugu, emphasizing that the day should be marked by selflessness, kindness, and support for those in need. “I am here to celebrate 2025 Valentine’s Day with people like you who serve God by serving humanity,” he added.
Obi also criticized the growing culture of self-interest and materialism in Nigeria, which he believes has worsened poverty and hardship. He condemned the relentless pursuit of wealth at the expense of the common good, stressing that true progress can only be achieved when leaders and citizens embrace love through service, compassion, and shared prosperity.
The former presidential candidate encouraged Nigerians to show love by investing in crucial sectors like education and healthcare, which he identified as key pillars of national development.
As part of his visit, Obi donated ₦25 million to the ongoing infrastructure development at the institution, bringing his total donations to ₦100 million in the past year. He also inspected the construction progress of the nursing school and praised the sisters for their commitment.
In response, the Superior General of the Congregation, Mother Mary Anastasia Dike, expressed deep appreciation for Obi’s generosity and presence on such a significant day. She described his visit as a true reflection of the love exemplified by St. Valentine and the selflessness that God calls humanity to practice.
Mother Dike assured Obi that the sisters hold him in high regard and will continue to pray for his success while asking God to bless his efforts for a better Nigeria.
