$150m Binance Bribe Allegation Directed At Individual Lawmakers, Not Reps — Spokesperson

The spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akin Rotimi, has clarified that the allegation made by the cryptocurrency firm Binance, claiming that three lawmakers demanded a $150 million bribe, is directed at individual members, not the institution itself.

The reports surfaced after Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime, alleged on social media that three lawmakers—Hons Peter Akpanke, Philip Agbese, and Ginger Obinna Onwusibe—demanded a bribe to prevent their arrest and prosecution.

In response, Rotimi stated that the accusations were against the individual lawmakers, not the entire legislative body. He emphasized that the affected members have denied the allegations and one has already initiated legal proceedings to clear their name. The others have been encouraged to pursue similar actions.

Rotimi further highlighted that the Nigerian and U.S. governments are engaged in high-level discussions about the matter, with Nigeria prioritizing its national interest. The Nigerian government has reportedly rejected financial settlement offers from Binance, raising doubts about the credibility of the allegations.

As the case is currently before a court and part of ongoing diplomatic efforts, the House has refrained from further commenting to respect judicial and diplomatic protocols.
