Gov. Eno Honors Late Wife with Ante-natal Facility, Donates N210m to UUTH

On Friday, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, inaugurated a new Ante-natal Complex at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), built to honor the memory of his late wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.

Governor Eno described the inauguration as a special Valentine’s gift from him and his family.

Speaking during the commissioning, the Governor emphasized that the gesture reflects his late wife’s profound love for the family, which she believed was the cornerstone of societal development. He noted that this passion led her to establish her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).

The new Ante-natal Complex, the Governor said, aligns with the state’s efforts to reduce infant mortality and ensure that pregnant mothers receive the highest standard of care.

Governor Eno also outlined his administration’s commitment to enhancing the medical sector in Akwa Ibom. He revealed plans to reposition the UUTH into a leading institution for medical tourism, which will include the development of a medical village and a state-of-the-art mother and child hospital with necessary staff accommodations.

Although UUTH is a federal facility, the Governor pointed out that the majority of its beneficiaries are from Akwa Ibom. As part of his support, he announced a donation of N200 million to the hospital and N10 million for the health insurance of indigent patients.

Governor Eno praised the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UUTH, Prof. EmemAbasi Bassey, for his transformative leadership and assured him of continued government support to further the hospital’s progress.

The Governor also reiterated his administration’s dedication to collaborating with UUTH and other medical stakeholders to realize the development goals for the health sector outlined in the ARISE Agenda.

In her remarks, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, thanked the CMD and UUTH management for their efforts, highlighting that the new Ante-natal Complex aligns with one of the key focus areas of GIFA — maternal healthcare.

Responding, the CMD commended the Governor for his continuous support and commitment to transforming the state’s healthcare system.
