‘Because Oyetola Is Tinubu’s Nephew, He Plans to Cause Anarchy in Osun’ – Gov. Adeleke Raises Alarm

The political crisis over local government control in Osun State has intensified, with Governor Ademola Adeleke accusing his predecessor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of orchestrating chaos in the state. Adeleke claimed that Oyetola is working with heads of security agencies in Osun to enforce illegal actions regarding local government councils, citing his familial relationship with President Bola Tinubu as a factor behind his alleged actions.

At a press conference in Osogbo on Sunday, Adeleke raised the alarm about what he called a deliberate attempt to create anarchy. He claimed Oyetola was issuing illegal orders to security operatives in Osun, hoping to enforce “illegality” in the local government councils. Adeleke urged President Tinubu to intervene and ensure the rule of law by directing the police and other security agencies to ignore these unlawful orders.

“I call this press conference to alert the national and global audience about a deliberate plot to create chaos in Osun state,” Adeleke said. “This evil plot is being spearheaded by Mr. Gboyega Oyetola in active collaboration with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of DSS, and the Commandant of Civil Defense Corps.”

Adeleke emphasized that Oyetola was exploiting his ties to the president to give orders to the state security apparatus. He also clarified that the local government chairmen and councillors, whom Oyetola reportedly wanted reinstated, were dismissed by court judgments before he became governor.

The controversy stems from two Federal High Court judgments from 2022, which sacked local government officials in Osun. Although an appeal by the APC (All Progressives Congress) against one of the judgments was partially successful, it did not result in the reinstatement of the chairmen. Adeleke stressed that Oyetola’s push to reinstate the officials was unconstitutional and dangerous.

In his statement, Governor Adeleke also denounced the alleged actions of Oyetola and the state security agencies, warning that any violent attempt to reinstate the sacked local government officials would lead to grave consequences.

“The general public is aware that two judgments from the Federal High Court dismissed the 2022 Osun local government elections, and the court did not order the reinstatement of the chairmen,” Adeleke said. “It is illegal and unconstitutional for anyone to take the law into their hands, especially when it involves a sitting minister issuing unlawful orders.”

Adeleke further emphasized that, regardless of his relationship with the president, Oyetola has no constitutional authority to command the security agencies. He urged President Tinubu to ensure that the police and other security forces in the state adhere strictly to the law and not take instructions from Oyetola.

He concluded with a direct appeal to President Tinubu to intervene before any potential violence erupts in the state, warning that Osun’s citizens would not tolerate any imposition of “illegality” or “anarchy.”
