Ex-Kaduna Governor Yero, Shehu Sani, Hunkuyi, and Others Defect to APC in Kaduna

Their decision influenced by my inclusive governance, says Gov Uba Sani

Prominent opposition figures, including former Kaduna State Governor Mukthar Ramalan Yero, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani, and several other political leaders, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.

The defections come as the state’s incumbent governor, Uba Sani, attributed the move to his inclusive and people-centered policies.

Addressing APC supporters at a large rally held at Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna over the weekend, Governor Sani welcomed the defectors, emphasizing that APC is one united family. He reassured the 50 political leaders joining the party that they would enjoy the same rights and privileges as any long-standing APC member.

“There is no distinction between those who joined the APC today and those who have been part of the party for the last 10 years,” the governor said. He urged the defectors to inform their supporters that APC remains open to more members, with doors wide open for additional defections.

Governor Sani also expressed confidence that in the 2027 elections, the electorate would vote for APC in all races—presidential, gubernatorial, and legislative elections—by the grace of God.

The governor assured that projects would be carried out across all corners of Kaduna State, irrespective of political affiliation or ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Other notable politicians joining the APC include Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, the former gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the last election; Alhaji Sani Sha’aban, a former gubernatorial aspirant; Senator Danjuma Laah, who served three terms in the National Assembly representing Kaduna South on the PDP platform; Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, a former National Organizing Secretary of PDP; and Ambassador Sule Buba, Nigeria’s former envoy to South Korea, among others.
