Anambra Government Refutes Claims of Arresting Women for Indecent Dressing

The Anambra State government has dismissed reports circulating on social media, which claimed that authorities have begun arresting women for indecent dressing, including walking around without bras or panties.

Christian Aburime, the Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, issued a statement on Monday, calling the rumors “false” and “malicious,” accusing them of being intentionally spread to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the state government.

Aburime clarified that while the state government, under Governor Soludo, encourages modesty and decency, it fully respects the rights of individuals, including their right to personal choices regarding clothing, as protected by Nigeria’s Constitution. He emphasized that the government does not interfere with the private lives of its citizens.

The statement further stressed that the Soludo administration remains focused on advancing Anambra’s economic and infrastructural development, and urged those spreading false information to cease their actions to prevent unnecessary panic and division.

“We categorically state that this report is completely false and intended to misrepresent the state government,” Aburime stated.

He encouraged the public to verify news from official government sources before sharing it, assuring that the Soludo-led government will continue prioritizing critical issues like security, human development, economic growth, and urban renewal for the benefit of the people of Anambra, rather than focusing on trivial matters.
