Imo Police Launch Probe as 8 Die in Fatal Road Accident

The Imo State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of eight people on Sunday evening at Amala, Ngor-Okpala, in the state.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, the accident involved two vehicles: a Toyota Camry with the registration number EPE 541 JO and a Hyundai Santa Fe with the registration number AAA 212 CD.

All eight occupants of both vehicles tragically lost their lives in the crash.

The PPRO said, “In response to the incident, police operatives from the Ngor-Okpala Divisional Headquarters quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. The remains of the deceased were evacuated and taken to the mortuary, while the accident vehicles were secured to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.”

As part of the ongoing investigation, the police are working to identify and notify the families of the victims. Photographic evidence has also been collected to assist in the inquiry into the cause of the accident.

Imo State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a stern warning to motorists about the dangers of reckless driving and excessive speeding, which are major contributing factors to road accidents. He urged road users to drive responsibly, follow traffic laws, and exercise patience.

“Every driver has a duty to protect not only their own lives but also those of others by adhering to road safety rules,” CP Danjuma emphasized.
