Federal Government Strengthens Measures to Combat Bullying, Unveils Hotlines
The Federal Ministry of Education has established a 7-member committee to tackle bullying in schools across Nigeria, reinforcing its commitment to student welfare and ensuring a safe learning environment.
The committee will be responsible for reviewing reported bullying cases and ensuring prompt action is taken. This initiative complements the ongoing work of a 21-member team dedicated to developing a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.
To facilitate confidential reporting, the government has introduced several communication channels, including a hotline at 09012660044, an email address (antibullying@education.gov.ng), and a WhatsApp number (08052536133) for reporting bullying incidents.
Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, stressed the urgent need for effective measures to address bullying, highlighting the severe psychological effects it can have on students.
Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, reaffirmed the Ministry’s zero-tolerance policy on bullying and urged school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to actively support the initiative.
“This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education as a key driver of national development,” she stated.
