JUST-IN: Governor Yusuf Signs Kano Security Neighbourhood Watch Law
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Yusuf, has officially signed into law the establishment of the State Security Neighbourhood Watch, setting the stage for the immediate launch of the new security initiative.
The development was confirmed by the governor’s media aide, Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, who made the announcement via a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
“His Excellency Gov. Abba K. Yusuf signing the law for the creation of the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch, today, Tuesday 18/2/2025,” Hotoro wrote.
This follows two weeks after the Kano State House of Assembly passed the bill, after thorough discussions.
The law grants the new security agency the authority to combat crime, make arrests, and operate statewide. Additionally, it stipulates that only non-partisan individuals can be appointed to lead the outfit.
With the signing of the law, the initiative is now set for implementation. Authorities are expected to announce recruitment procedures, operational guidelines, and leadership appointments in the coming days.
