ICPC Partners Correctional Service On Anti-Corruption Fight

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has entered into a partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to enhance the two agencies’ efforts in the fight against corruption.

This collaboration was discussed during a visit by the acting controller general of the NCoS, Sylvester Ndidi Nwabuche, and his team to the chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the ICPC chairman expressed his appreciation for the visit and outlined key strategies for cooperation, particularly in the areas of sensitization, training, and formalizing the relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Dr. Aliyu suggested utilizing ex-convicts in sensitization efforts, noting that their firsthand experience with crime and corruption would make their messages more impactful to the public. He also emphasized the importance of mutual learning through training, where both agencies could share knowledge and tackle challenges collectively.

The ICPC chairman further underscored the necessity of an MoU to formalize the partnership and provide a clear framework for their joint efforts.

The NCoS boss, Sylvester Nwabuche, expressed his strong commitment to preventing corruption, which motivated his decision to seek out a partnership with ICPC. He noted that since his appointment as head of the NCoS in December 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, he had prioritized establishing relationships with key agencies that impact his office, including ICPC.

“We are here to interface with you and deepen our relationship in the area of training and fighting corruption. Just like you, I am also an advocate of prevention,” Nwabuche stated.

He also praised the recent release of the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) report by the ICPC and expressed readiness to work within any framework provided by the commission to address challenges and improve their efforts in tackling corruption.

The meeting marked the beginning of a strengthened relationship between the ICPC and NCoS, with both parties eager to collaborate in their shared goal of promoting integrity and reducing corruption in Nigeria.
