Osun: Defence Minister Orders Security Agents to Be Proactive, Maintain Law and Order

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammad Matawalle, has urged security agencies to adopt proactive measures to ensure law and order are maintained in Osun State following recent violent incidents that led to the loss of lives.

In a statement issued by the Director of Information in the Ministry of Defence, Sunday Iyogun, Matawalle expressed his concern about the situation in the local government areas of Osun, emphasizing the need to prevent further violence. He underscored the importance of the Appeal Court ruling on the tenure of local government chairmen in the state, noting that it was a reflection of the judiciary’s independence and aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law.

Matawalle stated that the recent loss of lives in the state must not continue, and emphasized that as Minister of State for Defence, his responsibility included safeguarding citizens’ lives and property. He affirmed the administration’s dedication to respecting democratic principles at all levels of governance.

The Minister urged all political leaders, community members, and civil society organizations in the state to respect the rule of law and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve conflicts. He emphasized the need for collaboration to create a peaceful and conducive environment in Osun, vital for the region’s progress and development.

Matawalle also called on the citizens of Osun State to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, assuring them that the federal government was committed to their safety, with security measures being strengthened.

The Minister reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to protect citizens’ democratic rights and work toward a peaceful Nigeria, where justice prevails and the rule of law is upheld.
