Ex-FCT Minister, Gen. Jeremiah Useni, Laid To Rest In Plateau

The remains of former FCT Minister, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni, were laid to rest on Saturday in his family’s burial ground in Telam village, Pilgani Road, Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Gen. Useni, popularly known as ‘Baba Mai Tuwo’ (Father With Food), passed away in France on January 22, 2025, at the age of 82. His burial took place beside his beloved wife, Mrs. Julie Useni, and their son, Danjuma Nancwat Useni, who tragically died in an EAS plane crash in May 2002.

During the funeral service held at the COCIN Church RCC in Langtang, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, remarked that in his final days, Gen. Useni was focused on forgiveness and reconciliation. He urged the people of Plateau to embrace these values and remain hopeful for the state’s future.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Nentawe Yilwatda, paid tribute to the late general, describing him as a dedicated public servant who had devoted his life to humanity. He prayed for God’s comfort for Gen. Useni’s family, the state, and Nigeria at large.

Bishop Ishaya Idowu, in his sermon, praised Gen. Useni for his positive impact on the country and called on Nigerians to emulate his compassionate lifestyle, promoting peace and coexistence between Christians and Muslims.

Gen. Useni, after his retirement from the Nigerian Army, remained active in business and community development. He served as Director of Diamond Bank PLC, Chairman of Tim Tali Investments, and BFL Microfinance Bank Ltd., among others. His dedication to public service continued as he represented Plateau South as a Senator from 2015 to 2019 and contested as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in 2019, showcasing his ongoing commitment to governance and his community.
