Contempt: Court Orders Arrest Of Anyebe For Parading Self As Kogi PDP Chair
A Kogi High Court sitting in Lokoja has ordered the arrest of Enemona Anyebe, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for contempt of court. Justice Yahaya Adamu of Court 5 Lokoja issued the ruling in a case filed by John Ojodale against the PDP, with suit number HC/Okp/8/2024.
In the judgment, the court also mandated that a fresh election be held within 45 days to fill the vacancy left by the chairman. Justice Adamu ruled that Anyebe was not qualified to contest the election, as he was not a contestant in the PDP Congress held on August 31, 2024, due to an alleged suspension. The court further ordered Anyebe’s arrest for contempt of court for parading himself as the PDP chairman despite the earlier injunction barring his participation.
The ruling has sparked concerns within the party. Muhammed Isah, a pioneer member of the PDP in Kogi State, expressed that the development could further damage the already struggling fortunes of the party in the region. Isah called on the national secretariat of the PDP to intervene urgently to restore order and sanity within the state chapter of the party.
