2027: Kwara North Monarchs Demand Governorship Slot
Traditional rulers from Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State have reiterated their demand for the Kwara North region to produce the next governor in the 2027 general elections. The monarchs made this call at a special prayer session they organized in Kosubosu, the headquarters of Baruten, to seek divine guidance and stability for the governments of President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The prayer session, officiated by the chief imams of Okuta, Ilesha-Baruba, Yashikira, and Gwanara, was attended by various leaders and residents who sought blessings for security, prosperity, and political stability.
Hon. Isa Jibril, the Chairman of Baruten Local Government Area, commended the monarchs for their leadership in organizing the prayer. He emphasized the community’s support for both the federal and state governments, praying for divine wisdom for President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq.
The Emir of Okuta, Alh. Idris Abubakar Serobetete III, urged Kwara Northerners to unite and work towards the realization of the Kwara North governorship agenda, regardless of party affiliations. He called for support from Kwara Central and Kwara South in ensuring that the region secures the governorship position in 2027.
The Emir of Ilesha, Prof. Abubakar Halidu, praised the performance of President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq, describing the latter as a man of integrity who would honor his commitment to support Kwara North’s agenda. He pointed out that Kwara North had not had a shot at the governorship since the return of democracy in 1999, while Kwara South and Kwara Central had held the position for 8 and 20 years, respectively.
The Emir of Yashikira, Alh. Usman Sariki Sabi, also echoed the call for sustained efforts to secure the Kwara North governorship ticket.
Hon. Muhammad Boriya, representing Okuta/Yashikira in the Kwara State House of Assembly, spoke on behalf of local stakeholders, thanking the monarchs for their initiative and reaffirming the need for equity in the state’s leadership.
The attendees of the session expressed their commitment to ensuring that, if given the governorship ticket in 2027, every region in Kwara State would feel included and represented in the state’s political affairs.
