APC Takes Over As New LG Chairmen, Councillors Stay Off Secretariats In Osun
Most chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the October 15, 2022 Osun local government elections resumed in their various local governments in Monday without career officers on duty.
This is as the newly inaugurated chairmen and councillors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Saturday, February 22, complied with the directive of Governor Ademola Adeleke to stay off the local government secretariats on Monday.
Governor Adeleke had while inaugurating the elected chairmen and councillors in Sunday in Osogbo, directed them to stay off the council secretariats to avoid clashes with the opposition party as recently witnessed in the state.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the state council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had last week announced service withdrawal of local government workers for security purposes.
This was again reemphasised on Monday in a statement issued by the state chairman of the union, Christopher Arapasopo.
LEADERSHIP visits to Ifelodun, Olorunda, Ejigbo, Ilesa East and West, Obokun, local government secretariats among others, showed that council officials on the platform of the major opposition party had resumed their duties.
Heavy presence of security operatives was also noticed across major roads in the state, with armed police operatives and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officers mounting roadblocks at the entrances to the secretariats.
Security checkpoints were also mounted at strategic locations in the state capital while the same was observed along the Osogbo/Kwara boundary, Osogbo/Ilesa, and Osogbo/Ibokun roads.
However, the state has remained peaceful as people went about their business activities unhindered across the state.
