7 Arrested Over Planned Violent Protest in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has successfully disrupted a planned violent protest and arrested 17 suspected thugs involved in the scheme.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, announced that the police had implemented comprehensive security measures to prevent any disturbance to public order in the state.
“Based on credible intelligence about a planned violent protest by certain individuals, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and resources to key locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and maintain public safety,” SP Kiyawa explained.
He confirmed the arrest of 17 suspected individuals and stated that investigations were currently underway.
SP Kiyawa also issued a stern warning to individuals and groups planning any unlawful gatherings or acts of violence, emphasizing that any such behavior would face a swift and decisive response from security forces.
He further urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities, assuring that the Command was committed to bringing the perpetrators of the planned violence to justice.
Meanwhile, a noticeable increase in security presence was observed around State Road near Gida Nassarawa, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, resides, as well as near the Government House.
Earlier in the day, a group of demonstrators had been seen gathering around Kofar Nassarawa, but police swiftly intervened, using tear gas to disperse the crowd.
While the reasons behind the planned protest remain unclear, heightened security measures are in place throughout various parts of Kano State.
