Kano Governor Suspends Acting Head of Service Over Alleged Salary Fraud
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has suspended the Acting Head of Service and Permanent Secretary for Establishment, Salisu Mustapha, following allegations related to salary deductions and the non-payment of civil servants’ salaries.
The suspension, effective immediately, was announced in a statement released on Thursday night by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Mustapha has been instructed to step aside from his position as Permanent Secretary for Establishment in the Office of the Head of Service to allow for a thorough and unimpeded investigation.
Earlier this month, Mustapha was appointed Acting Head of Service after the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, took medical leave to receive treatment in India.
To ensure administrative continuity, Governor Yusuf has appointed Malam Umar Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Policy Analysis (REPA), as the new Acting Head of Service. Jalo will serve in this capacity until the ongoing investigation concludes.
This action aligns with Governor Yusuf’s commitment to holding anyone found guilty of financial malpractice, particularly regarding salary payments, accountable.
In line with this, a seven-member investigative committee, chaired by Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam, was inaugurated on Thursday. The committee has been given a seven-day deadline to complete its investigation into the alleged salary irregularities.
