Lagos Speaker Meranda Says Security Details Partially Restored

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, confirmed on Friday that her security details have not been fully restored since being reduced.

Hon. Meranda also addressed rumors about her resignation and condemned the alleged invasion of the Assembly by former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, on Thursday.

Regarding her security arrangements, Meranda told journalists that her team, which should ideally consist of 12 police officers, four operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), and two anti-bomb squad personnel, has been significantly reduced to just four police officers.

“As you can see, I have my people with me, and God is with me. Currently, I only have three or four policemen, while my security detail should include 12 policemen, four DSS operatives, and two anti-bomb squad members. I don’t have that protection anymore,” she explained.

Meranda also addressed the controversy surrounding the purported sitting of the Assembly led by Obasa on Thursday, calling it a “show of shame.” She emphasized that a specific number of members is required to form a quorum, and with only four members present, Obasa’s claim to have presided over a sitting was simply “drama.”

While acknowledging that Obasa remains a member of the Assembly and has the right to attend sittings, Meranda condemned the alleged invasion and the breaking into her office, describing it as a serious matter.

“We have not yet decided on our next actions, but when we do, I will let you know,” she added.

On the ongoing court case, Meranda said, “This is just the beginning, and as you saw, all parties were represented in court. I think we should allow the legal team to do their job.”
