Bwari General Hospital Laboratory has successfully retained its ISO 15189:2022 certification, solidifying its position as the first and only government-owned medical laboratory in Nigeria to attain and maintain this prestigious accreditation. The achievement underscores the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic services and reinforces its status as a leader in healthcare excellence.

ISO certification is a global standard for medical laboratories, confirming that an institution adheres to internationally recognized practices in laboratory management and quality control. This certification assures patients and healthcare providers of the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic services.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, highlighted that retaining the ISO certification reflects the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery as part of the healthcare reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Olayinka emphasized that maintaining ISO certification required continuous improvements to meet evolving global standards, including staff training, procedure upgrades, and investment in modern equipment. He further noted that Bwari General Hospital’s achievement demonstrates the FCTA’s dedication to delivering reliable and high-quality healthcare services.

Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, the FCT Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment, explained that the Bwari General Hospital Laboratory initially received the ISO 15189:2012 accreditation in 2019, covering a four-year period (2019–2023). The lab’s successful re-certification is a significant milestone for Nigeria’s healthcare system and a testament to the FCTA’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.

Dr. Fasawe expressed hope that the success of Bwari General Hospital Laboratory would inspire other government hospitals across Nigeria to strive for similar excellence. She affirmed that this accomplishment is proof that Nigerian healthcare institutions are capable of meeting global standards, contributing to the nation’s healthcare advancement.

This ISO certification reaffirms Bwari General Hospital Laboratory’s position as a model for quality medical practices and sets a standard for other healthcare facilities to follow in Nigeria.
