Gov Adeleke Visits Tinubu’s Ally Akande In Ibadan
On Tuesday, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, paid a visit to Chief Bisi Akande, the pioneer national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Chief Akande, a former governor of Osun State, is also a close ally of President Bola Tinubu.
Governor Adeleke was accompanied by several prominent members of his cabinet, although the specifics of their meeting remain unclear. Political observers speculated that the visit may be part of efforts to foster dialogue and engagement across political lines, especially given the current tensions in Osun State.
Governor Adeleke has been at odds with the APC in Osun State following the February 10, 2025, ruling by a Court of Appeal, which handed control of local government areas in Osun to APC officials, despite the state being governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This legal development led to a series of confrontations, including violent clashes when APC officials, relying on the court ruling, attempted to take control of local government secretariats. The resulting violence led to the loss of at least four lives.
However, Governor Adeleke took a significant step to ease tensions by directing his party members to step back, allowing the opposition to take control of the local government offices. In addition, he instructed newly elected local government chairmen and councillors from the most recent elections to refrain from assuming office until the legal disputes surrounding their positions are resolved.
This visit by Governor Adeleke to Chief Akande could be seen as an attempt to engage in political dialogue, potentially signaling a move towards a more collaborative approach in resolving ongoing political tensions in Osun State.
