Independent Petroleum Producers Group Applauds Tinubu’s Efforts in Advancing Nigeria’s Energy Sector

The Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) has praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its bold policy reforms and visionary leadership in revitalizing Nigeria’s energy sector.

At the opening ceremony of the 8th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2025), Mr. Abdulrazaq Isa, Chairman of IPPG, highlighted the significant role the administration has played in advancing the industry, restoring investor confidence, and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global energy market.

Under President Tinubu’s reform agenda, Nigeria’s energy sector has achieved significant milestones. One of the key accomplishments is the country’s ability to meet OPEC’s production quota of 1.5 million barrels per day, facilitated by improved security conditions in the Niger Delta.

The administration has also secured multi-billion-dollar Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) for major energy projects, including the NNPC Ltd & TotalEnergies’ Ubeta Field Development and Shell’s Bonga North, which marked the first deepwater FID in over a decade.

The IPPG also commended the progress made under the Decade of Gas Initiative, which has accelerated gas development projects, expanded LNG production, and bolstered gas-to-power initiatives, cementing Nigeria’s role as a global gas powerhouse. Additionally, the sustained deregulation of the downstream sector has led to improved product availability, enhanced market efficiency, and heightened competitiveness.

“These achievements are a testament to the administration’s dedication and should not be taken lightly,” Mr. Isa remarked, urging continued commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of the industry.

As Mr. Isa’s tenure as Chairman of IPPG approaches its conclusion in June 2025, he stressed the importance of transitioning from a commodity-export-driven economy to one that creates value through the midstream and downstream sectors. He called for greater integration between the energy industry and sectors such as petrochemicals, agriculture, power, manufacturing, and transportation to unlock Nigeria’s full economic potential. He also expressed strong support for the Domestic Crude Oil Supply Obligation (DCSO) policy, acknowledging its crucial role in securing Nigeria’s energy future.

With divestments from International Oil Companies (IOCs) leading to a shift in operational control to indigenous players, Mr. Isa reiterated IPPG’s commitment to industrialization, job creation, and energy security.

“IPPG members now carry a national responsibility and will serve as dedicated stewards, upholding global best practices and operational excellence,” Mr. Isa stated.

A key moment at the summit was the unveiling of IPPG’s new logo, symbolizing the group’s renewed commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy aspirations. The updated logo reflects IPPG’s vision for an energy industry that not only supports national development but also elevates Nigeria’s global standing.
