Police Arrest 7 Suspected Armed Robbers in Enugu
Police detectives from the Enugu State Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have apprehended seven male suspects in connection with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The arrests led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and alleged stolen items. The operation followed credible intelligence after a report was made at the Unity Police Division regarding a series of armed robberies.
According to the police, the robbers were accused of invading and robbing residents of Ibagwa-Nike, Enugu, on two separate occasions, February 3 and February 6, 2025.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests, explaining that detectives from the Anti-Robbery (D9) Section swiftly launched an investigation based on the report, which resulted in the suspects’ capture.
The arrested individuals were identified as Chetachukwu Okolo (32), Ogwuche Chukwuemeka alias “Shenkes” (22), Ifeanyi Okoye (29), Sopuruchukwu Odenigbo alias “Jadon” (28), Onyebuchi Ukwu (20), Chukwuebuka Chukwu alias “Kobo” (25), and Mmaduabuchi Ukeh (25).
Recovered items include SIM cards, identity cards, clothes, supplements, and other stolen goods, which the victims have identified. Additionally, police seized one pump-action gun, two locally made pistols, two live cartridges, and two machetes from the suspects.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the robberies, and the police have vowed to complete the investigation before filing charges in court.
Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and continue supporting the police. He emphasized that tackling crime effectively in Enugu State requires the active involvement of the community.
