Tinubu Appoints Ogunjimi as New Accountant General of the Federation
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
Ogunjimi’s appointment, which was confirmed on Tuesday following a thorough selection process, will take effect on March 7, 2025—the same day the current officeholder, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.
According to a statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, 57-year-old Ogunjimi was initially announced as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. The selection committee then chose Ogunjimi through a competitive, merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts from the Federal Civil Service.
The process included three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.
Onanuga highlighted that the rigorous selection process reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and merit in public service appointments.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduated in 1990, and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to carry out his duties with integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to serving Nigeria.
