FCT Minister Arrives in Italy, Set to Meet Lombardy Region President on Thursday

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has arrived in Milan, Italy, on Wednesday ahead of a series of official engagements, including a significant meeting with the President of Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, scheduled for Thursday.

Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed the arrival in a statement from Milan, revealing that the Minister departed Abuja on Tuesday night and arrived at 4:30 am Nigerian time on Wednesday. Upon his arrival, Wike was warmly received by the Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of Nigeria in Italy, Ambassador Mustapha Mohammed.

During his stay in Milan, the FCT Minister will hold key discussions with Fontana on areas of collaboration, focusing on agriculture and vocational education, with the goal of exploring potential development opportunities and partnerships between the FCT and the Lombardy Region. Lombardy is renowned for its economic significance, ranking as Italy’s top region by GDP, and holds the second-highest population in the European Union, with about 10 million residents.

The Minister’s itinerary also includes meetings with agribusiness investors and experts in vocational training, aiming to unlock new opportunities and enhance strategic collaborations.

The FCT Mandate Secretaries for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Agriculture and Rural Development, Lawan Geidam, as well as other key aides, accompanied Wike on the trip.
