Police Arrest Housewife for Alleged Killing of Co-Wife in Bauchi

A 28-year-old housewife, Fatima Mohammed, has been arrested for allegedly killing her co-wife, 20-year-old Hajara Isa, at their matrimonial home in the Anguwan Sarakuna area of Bauchi metropolis.

The incident, which occurred on February 28, 2025, has raised concerns as incidents of homicide have been occurring in Bauchi, drawing attention from both stakeholders and security agencies.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Bauchi State Command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday. He stated that on March 3, 2025, a report was made by one Sale Isa of Anguwan Sarakuna, who raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding Hajara’s death. The family members suggested that Fatima, her co-wife, may have been involved.

CSP Wakil further explained that the Bauchi State Police Commissioner, CP Auwal Muhammad, swiftly assigned a specialized team of detectives from the C Divisional Police Headquarters to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that Fatima Mohammed may be implicated in Hajara’s death. During questioning, she reportedly confessed to strangling her co-wife to death and then attempted to conceal the crime by pouring boiled water on her and burning her body with a melting BagCo sack.

The PPRO assured that the police are committed to ensuring justice and that the investigation would be referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough and impartial interrogation. CSP Wakil also mentioned that CP Auwal Musa Muhammad has assembled a team of experienced homicide detectives to gather all relevant information to ensure justice is served.
