Makinde Presents Certificate, Staff Of Office To New Eleruwa
On Thursday, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, officially presented the staff of office and certificate to the new Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Adebayo Adegbola, in a brief ceremony at the Governor’s office in Ibadan, the state capital.
The ceremony, which was attended by Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal, took place at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office in the Secretariat. This event followed Governor Makinde’s approval of Oba Adegbola as the new Eleruwa, which was announced on Tuesday.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed that the approval came after Oba Adegbola was recognized as the successor following the vacancy of the stool. This vacancy occurred after the High Court of Oyo State dismissed Suit No. HER/10/23 on 22 October 2024.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, explained that the Laribikusi Ruling Quarters failed to present candidates within the required time frame, according to Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State. As a result, the Akalako Ruling House was recognized as the next quarters to nominate candidates.
Oba Adegbola, who was first installed as Eleruwa in 1998, had been deposed in November 2019 following a Supreme Court order. With this reinstatement, he now assumes his role once again.
