Troops Kill 92 Terrorists, Rescue 75 Hostages In 1 Week
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported significant military successes in the fight against terrorism, announcing that troops on internal operations neutralised 92 terrorists, including a notorious terrorist commander, Amirul Khalid (Abba Alai) of Alafa, and arrested 111 individuals in the past week. Additionally, 75 hostages were rescued during these operations.
Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, presented the figures during the weekly update on military activities for the period between February 27 and March 6, 2025.
Key Highlights:
- Neutralised Terrorists: 92, including the terrorist commander Amirul Khalid.
- Arrested Individuals: 111, including suspected terrorists and criminals.
- Rescued Hostages: 75 individuals freed from captivity.
In the fight against oil theft, the troops also made significant strides. A total of 18 suspected oil thieves were arrested, and stolen oil products valued at ₦521,802,360 were recovered. Among the stolen products recovered were:
- 452,396 litres of stolen crude oil.
- 224,175 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (diesel).
- 1,920 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
Troops also uncovered and destroyed a large number of illegal oil refining equipment, including:
- 87 crude oil cooking ovens.
- 28 dugout pits.
- 23 boats.
- 33 storage tanks.
- 61 drums.
- 47 illegal refining sites.
Additionally, the military recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including:
- 58 AK47 rifles.
- 21 locally fabricated guns.
- 26 dane guns.
- 7 pump-action guns.
- 4 PKT guns.
- 2 GPMGs (General Purpose Machine Guns).
- 1 QJC W85 gun.
- 1 HK 21 gun.
- 1 M60 MG (Machine Gun).
- 11 RPG bombs.
- 2 RPG tubes.
- 1 fabricated 60mm mortar.
The troops also recovered 2,278 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 26 live cartridges, 64 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 18 magazines, along with other assorted arms.
Maj.-Gen. Kangye expressed the military’s commitment to sustaining these operations, emphasizing the significant strides being made in the fight against terrorism and oil theft. The ongoing success in these operations is seen as a major blow to criminal elements in the region.
