‘Why No Senator Openly Supports Natasha’, Ex-Lawmaker Shehu Sani Explains

A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Shehu Sani, has provided an explanation as to why Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended Kogi Central Senator, finds herself isolated in her conflict with the leadership of the 10th Senate.

LEADERSHIP reports that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate on Thursday for a six-month period following allegations of violating Senate rules and other misconduct, particularly in relation to a face-off with Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, concerning seating arrangements in the Senate chamber earlier that week.

In response to the development, Shehu Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate (2015-2019), took to his verified Facebook page with a cryptic post. He reflected on his own past experience when he narrowly escaped a six-month suspension after publicly exposing the true salaries and allowances of Senators on a TV show.

Sani suggested that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusation of Senate President Akpabio regarding sexual harassment played a significant role in her being left alone to battle the Senate leadership. He explained that due to the potential for victimization, no Senator would openly support Natasha for fear of repercussions.

He posted: “When I publicly disclosed the salaries and allowances of the Senators, it nearly earned me a SIX-month suspension if not for Divine Intervention. Just know that if you are there and you blow whistle too loudly, you will be ‘On your Own’, no senator go bring him head and neck to support you.”

This statement sheds light on the precarious position of Senators who might find themselves in conflict with the Senate leadership and underscores the risks involved in standing up against powerful figures within the institution.
