1 Killed, 3 Others Injured As Vehicles Collide In Ogun
A tragic accident occurred early on Friday along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State, resulting in the death of one person and leaving three others with varying degrees of injuries. The collision involved two articulated trucks—a white Sino truck and a blue Volvo truck—both without registration numbers.
The accident took place around 04:20 a.m. in front of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operational headquarters, directly opposite the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta. According to the Public Education Officer of the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe, the incident was caused by brake failure and a subsequent loss of control. This led one of the trucks to jump the road divider and collide with an incoming vehicle in the opposite lane.
A total of nine people were involved in the crash, but the identities of the deceased and the injured were not immediately confirmed. The injured victims were promptly evacuated to the State Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the body of the deceased was also taken to the morgue at the same hospital.
FRSC Sector Commander, CC Akinwumi Fasakin, urged motorists to conduct daily vehicle checks before setting out and prioritize safety when on the road. He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
