23-Year-Old Truck ‘Motor Boy’ Electrocuted in Ogun

A 23-year-old truck-driving apprentice, Jonathan Emmanuel, was tragically electrocuted on Thursday evening at a welding workshop in Ifo township, located in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to reports, Jonathan, who was learning to drive trucks, had accompanied his master, Azeez Salami, to a workshop in the Asimolowo area to fix a faulty truck. While there, they were offloading about 10 truck tire rims from a mini bus that had been brought by the truck owner, Olaleye Kamaldeen.

Unknowingly, Jonathan rolled one of the tire rims across an exposed live wire at the workshop, which was being used by the workshop owner, Oladokun Johnson, who was working on a container. The contact with the live wire resulted in Jonathan’s electrocution, causing him to collapse instantly. He was rushed to the Ifo General Hospital but was declared “Brought-In-Dead” by the attending medical doctor.

CSP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident. She stated that Oladokun Johnson, Azeez Salami, and Olaleye Kamaldeen have all been arrested in connection with the electrocution. The police were alerted to the incident by Jonathan’s father, Emmanuel Brown Abah, who reported it at the Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters at around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The police recovered the welding machine and exposed wire as evidence, and investigations are ongoing. Odutola assured the public that the case would be taken to court once the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) completes its investigation.

The Ogun State Police Command also urged business owners and artisans to implement safety measures in their workplaces to prevent similar tragic accidents in the future.
